a forest

Despite living in Monaghan at least 5 yrs we’d never visited Rossmore Forest Park, that was until yesterday. It was tiring, lots of walking, but at least we had good weather. Unfortunately we only covered a small area, I’m looking forward to going back again to see the raths and court tomb.

It’s not often that I manage to take good photos so I was very surprised at how well most of them turned out.

Yoda hat

I’ve just finished the yoda hat for my niece. It was a variation of the Felt-to-fit Yoda hat.

The basic hat was the Simple Baby hat from Debbie Bliss’s Baby Knits for Beginners, the ears were from the Felt-to-fit pattern just done on 3.25mm needles. The main part of the head was done with 3.25mm’s too. Yarn was some old Stylecraft acrylic DK.

Its Friday….

I really don’t like pure wool yarn. I’m nearly finished my 2nd square for the Doctor Who charity afghan, but its not going as well as I had hoped it would. The pure wool is uncomfortable to work with, unfortunately the squares need to be made in 4ply and I have very little variety to choose from.

This week I got my first knitting related injury. I managed to stab myself in the palm of my hand with a 2.75mm needle and had to pull it out :-( Its still a little sore but it hasn’t stopped me from knitting.

I’ve decided to try and keep on top of my WIP’s by making a little list.

  1. Ballet shoes. These should be finished later tonight.
  2. Emo fingerless gloves.
  3. Baby Yoda outfit.
  4. Cozy wrap.

I’ll also be continuing to make as many squares as possible for the Doctor Who charity afghan.

Jareth modeling a square

Here Jareth is modeling the first of my squares for the Doctor Who Charity Afghan, before running away and attempting to wash his face with it.

Yoda

I’ve finally finished the baby yoda sweater for my new niece :-). Now I can get started on the matching hat, I’ll probably make a little pair of bootees too.

squares

Having recently discovered the Who Knits? group on Ravelry I couldn’t resist taking part in the Doctor Who Charity Afghan project. Yesterday I made my first square for the project, slightly out of shape :-) It was my first attempt at knitting a bias square so I’m still pleased with the result.

I really wish I had found out about the Adipose pattern before BBC had it removed along with several other Doctor Who inspired patterns created for personal use. Hopefully they’ll become available again soon. Knitted aliens are cute!

simple hat

Here is the hat finished today. The yarn used was Patons Fab DK 0235. The pattern was the Simple Hat from Debbie Bliss’s Baby Knits for Beginners. I had to go down 2 needle sizes to get the right gauge but it turned out well. I may try and add a flower in some Patons Cotton DK.

matinee jacket

This jacket was knit in the same yarn as the hat, pattern is easy to remember but it gets very heavy when you get to the yoke. Pattern was from a Knit Today supplement last year.

Progress

I’ve been feeling very productive lately, as well as learning HTML (slowly…) I’ve finished another project. Later today I hope to put up pics of the jacket & matching baby hat that are now complete.

I’ve agreed to take part in a Doctor Who charity afghan on Ravelry and learnt how to knit a bias square.

I want milk!I’m very tempted by Rowan’s new milk cotton yarn. It looks lovely and probably feels great too.

I’m gradually getting all my baby knitting done, when the kids aren’t screaming or climbing me. I recently finished a jacket for a friends little girl, I’m half-way through a matching hat and hope to complete the outfit with a little pair of ballet shoes.

I’m also going to attempt my own version of the Felted Baby Yoda hat using DK acryllic and straight needles. It should look nice with the Baby Yoda Sweater and a pair of cargo pants.

Hopefully when all of that is finished I can knit something for myself. I’m looking forward to attempting lace work, despite being terrified at the thought of following a chart.
